LAKE LEVEL MEASURING

The La Porte Drainage Board and Indiana DNR measured Hudson Lake Levels over the years. With the low lake levels of 2020 and 2021, HLCA looked at ways to assist in this effort.

PROJECT DETAILS

The LaPorte Drainage Board surveyor recommended investing in a ToltHawk Device that would measure the lake level 24x7. In September 2022, HLCA solicited funding from the community and was able to purchase the device by October and install in by January 2023. The data from this device is available on this site under “Lake Level Data” section. Through a donation from a lake resident, the HLCA now has a CoCoRAHS device installed, and we participate in collecting and recording actual precipitation on Hudson Lake. In March 2023 we took readings at various locations and devices to compare and ensure the integrity of device measurements. All were within ½ inch.

PROJECT WORK

The ToltHawk and CoCoRAHS data will regularly be uploaded onto the HLCA website. Any equipment or operational needs have been manned. Integrity device measurements will be performed 2 times a year. This involves coordination with the LaPorte Drainage Board and/or the Indiana DNR. HLCA continues to work with the Indiana DNR to secure the sophisticated devices that can do even more in these areas. Partnerships like these often require matching funding. The goal is to continue to partner to obtain the necessary equipment to serve the lake as well as secure funding.

It takes a community to keep Hudson Lake healthy and enjoyable. Anyone interested in working on This PRoject, please reach out to us at info@hlcaindiana.com.
